Weekend part 3

Attempt number 3 at talking about my weekend.

As I was saying it was great to see
Mara Yamauchi do well in the Marathon and I do think she is a possible star of the future in distance running for the UK roll on London 2012 thats where she will need to prove herself as the next Paula Radcliffe.

Sunday wasn't just about the Marathon though as soon after it I could get ready for the Formula 1 from Bahrain, unfortunately this weekend I missed the Friday practice and Saturday Qualifying sessions due to being a bit busy on Friday and on Saturday I was in Peterhead so there was no chance to keep up to speed with the events in Bahrain.

Sunday's race though made up for me missing the other sessions as it was one of those edge of seat thrillers. Where the winner of the race was going to be decided by the pit stops and who could make the time to run the perfect race and with most of the teams looking so good this season it was close. The two Toyota's qualified first and second on the Saturday and Sebastian Vettel took third with Jenson Button in 4th and Lewis Hamilton has done his best so far in qualifying taking 5th. That had the front end of the grid looking rather good and competitive, and well it was a great race that followed when the lights went out. Just in the rush to turn one we had a few changes of positions throughout the field as usual but the race that followed included some excellent decisions for the team bosses to make and yet again the man that got the decisions right was Ross Brawn, from making sure Jenson Button had enough fuel to stay out for a longer first stint so he could get in front of the Toyotas during their pit stops and then use his lighter car to make some room for his stop and Ross Brawn got it perfect Jenson drove well to make the gap and Ross Brawn pulled him in for his stop. Even when it came to the second stop for Jenson it was timed perfectly to enable a better gap being made even though Jenson got the little notice board message of "BOX" which was an indication that he had to come in next lap of he would be out of juice.

All those doubters out there who thought Brawn GP wouldn't do well and said that they had issues in the desert heat soon sat up and took notice when Jenson cruised across the line to take the win. Even with a load of holes being drilled in the cars underside to help ventilate the engine and cool it due to the heat they still managed to secure the win.

Oh and lets not forget that old Stalwart Rubens Barrichello who may have finished sixth but he played a big part in Jensons victory by running a three stop strategy as was Jensons rear gunner who kept the field at bay while he was making space for his stop and once completed he continued to keep the pressure off him.

One thing though this race proved was that this season is going to be very close and I know I say that every time I'm talking about it but I can not believe that we have what looks like a fairly competitive season not like what we have had in previous years where it has been the two heavy weights of Mclaren and Ferrari slugging it out, and on the Ferrari note they finally picked up some points with Kimi Raikkonen getting three points, but it is the same old Fillipe Massa no where near getting any points, I just don't think he really has a feel for his car this season at all now. On paper it looks a good car and Kimi is starting to have some success with it but Massa is not going anywhere fast.

Oh and for a long time we had a race without any yellow flag incidents so no need for slow laps under the safety car where sometimes teams can make mistakes like McLaren done in Australia well after their little lieing incident they are up in the FIA court this week awaiting judgement.

The weekend ended on a high as well when I managed to watch the Carl Froch V
Jermain Taylor fight. I can honestly say it was one of the best fights I have seen for a while and I really did think that Froch would have lost by a couple of rounds if it went to the score cards as he just wasn't doing well at all. Taylor on the other hand looked the better fighter and in the third round he had Froch on the canvass with an excellent punch. The fight was al but over in the 12th round where Froch had no choice but to go out into the ring and knock Taylor out and well I couldn't believe what I seen. Froch came out of his corner fired up and layed into Taylor who just had no response to the attack and it looked like Taylors fitness had let him down again when Froch had him on the ropes in the corner and with one big right hand after some punnishment in rounds 11 and 12 Froch had Taylor down and it didn't look like he was getting back up and in my opinion he should have stayed down as no sonner was he back up and fighting the referee had to jump in to stop the fight as Carl Froch was now beating Jermain Taylor up quite badley and Taylor didn't answer Froches attack with any sort of defence.

So Carl Froch managed to hold on to his WBC Super Middle Weight title but only just there was no way he would have held onto it if the referee didn't step into stop the fight with just 14 seconds left. The only thing though about Froch in his post match interview he said he would love to take on the great Joe Calzaghe and the way Froch was talking he was confident he would beat Calzaghe but there is no chance of that even if Calzaghe did come out of retierment Froch wouldn't last the distance he would but knocked out in the sixth round.

Well finaly I have managed to complete my weekend even though now it is Tuesday night but it was just one of the best weekends of sport, I have had for a while OK Stirling Albion may not be in the Playoffs but that is a good thing as I think we need another year in the Second Division to get a decent team together again, just need to hope that the ruomors that we are sold are true but just now I will be watching for flying pigs.

I would go on for a bit about my plans to get fit, just like I have been going on about I really need to look at making some sort of plan.
